Panoply
02:14
|
|||
I thought it wouldn't hurt to try things out
So I started taking stabs at myself
And I'll let you know if the bloodletting quits
Wouldn't it be such a sight to see
A song without some irony?
Sorry, with me
This is as good as it gets
We'll be doing fine
Just over the state line
But we can pretend
That we're farther away
And if our panoply
Decides it's done with you and me
We can make our split
And claim that it's in self-defense
You know, I wouldn't call what I've got "hate"
But I don't ever stay up too late
Pondering semantics that aren't easily solved
But I'm still good as a last resort
(Hey, don't sell your own self short!)
Okay, maybe I'm also good for a self-defeating
Self-serving retort
We'll be doing fine
Just over our state of mind
But we can pretend
That we're farther away
And if our panoply
Wants to be buried with me
We can make our split And claim that it's in self-
...defense

Big Bear
01:09
|
|||
Uh, testing, testing.
Is this one workin'? Shit, sorry.
This one's goin' out to you, Big Bear.
I been thinkin' about ya.
Big Bear walkin' out through the trees,
Michael, can you hear me?
Big Bear out there in the night,
So clean and so bright.
Big Bear, I want you,
Big Bear, I need to you to know,
Big Bear, I hope
You won't let me go,
Won't let me go,
Oh, won't let me go,
Won't let me go.
Just... thinkin' bout ya, Big Bear. Take care.

August's Song
03:26
|
|||
August
Late night and I'm missing you
August
If only could see you through the trees
August
It's a long way home and I don't know the way yet
The fog is thicker than you would believe
Life's too short for waiting any longer
The night's too cold to stay out very long
And if I stay where I am, then I won't make it
Just hoping you will come along
August
The days ain't they used to be
August
Feeling less sure every single day
August
Time will make fools of each of us, for sure
August
But one day I'll be knocking at your door
But one day I'll be knocking at your door.

On down in Ol' Brush Valley
I went there with my gal, she
Left me feelin' lonesome in the end
So now I drown my sorrow
I figure by tomorrow
That you won't find me feelin' for a friend.
Ol' Brush Valley
I wonder what it is about that place,
Ol' Brush Valley,
But since I left I haven't shown my face
It's a disgrace.
On down in Ol' Brush Valley,
I went and I did bury
The one who left me lonesome in the end,
The grave, well, it was shallow
It left me feelin' hallow
With only just one vulture for a friend.
Ol' Brush Valley
I wonder what it is about that place,
Ol' Brush Valley,
They don't know yet they'll never see her face,
Ol' Brush Valley
The cops are getting closer by the day
Ol' Brush Valley,
Oh how I wish that they would go away,
It's a disgrace.
On down in Ol' Brush Valley
'Cause that is where they tailed me,
They dug her up the ground just for the proof,
But now in this jail, son,
I am never lonesome
And I am never waitin' for a roof.
Ol' Brush Valley
I wonder what it is about that place,
Ol' Brush Valley,
But soon enough they'll all forget my face
It's a disgrace.

Blistering heat
made the words too sticky on my tongue
the world is pointing out its blistered thumbs
hitchhiking back where it belongs
my tired feet
an overcooked image in a song
the world is pointing out it can’t be long
until the people who write them are done
But it was raining
and the bullshit that you’re selling
I don’t know if you believe it
but you sold it to me well
there’s a strain of the truth
that if you don’t put it to use
you’ll recount the saddest fragments
like the corners of a puzzle
that you’ve solved
let me sit down
the sun has knocked me fully to the ground
poisoned me in place where you have found
me begging in the smallest piece of shade
I miss the sound
of boots crunching the snow outside your house
albedo off the ice reflects the photons
off the earth and back around
but it was raining
and the truth that I am telling
has been regurgitated fondly
like a sparrow to its youth
there’s the essence of a place
that if you let go to waste
you’ll be wandering through the forest
looking for desire paths you
swear you saw
but who could ever want to be
so consistently polite?
Who could ever trade
the darkness of a comfortable
warm and humid night
for so much light?
but it was raining
and the line that you’ve been toeing
will wash away as what you’ve know
becomes fully dissolved
there’s an extract from a life
that I tried to live twice
you know you don’t owe your mistakes
a chance to try and cut you down
a second time
a second time

We could clean it up
Starry-eye my desperation
It looks better as romance
And I could counter-argue
But I don't think that I will
'Cause I don't think that you care
You don't care do you?
'Cause even if you did
I'd unpack half-truths and fix the latches
They get a little easier to open every time
And even if you wanted to act in my best interest
You'll get fooled
You don't think that I'm interested do you?
It'll take a little to get between myself and my self-diagnosis
And I won't step back gracious
And I know there's little belaboring the point
When your size outpaces me
You think you got the cure to being bitter?
Well the pill tastes just as bad as the real thing
And I hope you don't expect me to get better
You don't think that I intend to help myself, do you?
'Cause even if I did
I would provide my own superstition
And it would make sense while I dwelled on it
And I know it sounds like I am stuck on being stubborn
But that's okay
You don't expect anything
Do you?

Outlaw Ty

Outlaw Ty, outlaw Ty
Hiding out and scraping by
Outlaw Ty outlaw Ty
I hope he find a home
Before the road gets cold
Outlaw Ty
Too complicated for his good
A stranger to himself
I’m worried he won’t settle down
The wanderin’ will eat away your health
Settle down, ty, settle down
The outlaw life
Ain’t a life in itself
Settle down, Ty, settle down
Better watch your step
Or it will drag you to hell
Outlaw Ty, outlaw Ty
Hiding out and scraping by
Outlaw Ty outlaw Ty
I hope he find a home
Before the road gets cold
And I feel it in my bones
You haven’t got too long
Outlaw Ty

The Ballad Of Cowboy Jam
02:29
|
|||
This is the ballad of cowboy jam
Who didn’t know they were a cowboy yet
They stuck with us through thick and thin
So that we could be a cowboy again
Oh the wind did rush down the mountain path
The weight of the world weighed down their back
You may never know why things happened like this
As you try to beat back the past with your fists
Oh don’t you know
The entropy erodes our fate
Oh don’t you know
The longest night eventually gives way
To a hopefully better day
This is the ballad of cowboy jam
Who took in an exhausted man
They gave him all there was to give
So he could hit the road on his feet again
And the fires did rage on the horizon line
But cowboy jam paid them no mind
It’s easy to burn out, it’s harder to burn
Because once the fuel’s gone it will never return

Decadence (Bonus)
03:42
|
|||
What's the point of living
If I ain't spilling
Myself in every crevice?
And if time's worth keeping
I'll set my watch this evening
To see if I can really grasp it.
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, like everybody else
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, with everybody else
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, with decadence
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else
The scraps between my teeth
So rotten they could be anything, I was wrong
To pick them out and not swallow them whole
I'm gonna need to reach
If I'm gonna get by just grasping at straws
It's all I really got, it's all I really got
But not for long.
What's the point of failure
if every dead endeavor
Is so delicately measured?
For once I'd like to wallow
Eye to eye with sorrow
And let the sadness be my pleasure
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, like everybody else
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, with everybody else
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, with decadence
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else
The scraps between my teeth
So rotten they could be anything, I was wrong

If I'm gonna get by just grasping at straws
It's all I really got, it's all I really got
But not for long.
'Cause I've got demons and a bone to pick
Like everybody else, like every
body.
